The Sun’s Power + Ground source + efficiency = energy independence
PV power + battery backup = ultimate protection from power outages and rate hikes. Air sealing for Minimum ventilation guidelines and insulation R-22 were added for better savings and comfort.
The photovoltaic (PV) system that the CT Electrical crew installed in the summer of 2011 is fairly unusual because of the battery backup feature. The bank of deep-cycle, dry cell batteries in the Ross basement is designed for safe, long-term use with a PV system. During daylight hours, the batteries are charged from the solar electricity that can meet most of the home’s electrical demands or when there is a power outage.
